Milo Keller was born July 10th, 1994. Milo left his Daddy and Mommy on August 6th, 2011. We called him Milo Keller because he was a family member to us both. He was our baby! Even though he was 17 years old. Milo was the joy in both of our lives.
Milo was the cutest cat in the litter of kittens. My son brought him to me where he and his brothers and sisters lived and right away I told my son that we were taking him home because this is not a way to live for a kitten. We brought Milo home, and he got his name from the movie “The Adventures of Milo and Otis,” which we had just watched. Milo was the adventurous type, too! He loved to be walking on a leash with his mommy outside. I started walking him on the leash from the time he was young, up until the day he left us. My husband had to get a photo of Milo and me walking together outside on his leash.
One day Milo went outside our apartment building when he was younger, and he would always meow to let me know to let him inside. But this time he had gone downstairs, and I figured I’d let him in in 10 or 15 minutes. But my husband heard the doorbell ring and looked out the peephole and saw no one there, and he thought that was strange. I came into the living room and a few seconds later the doorbell rang again. I looked out and, like my husband, saw no one there. We looked at each other and said, ok, let’s open the door – so we did. And guess what? Milo was there at the door, and we just looked at each other and laughed so hard. It was Milo, jumping up the side of the door to ring the doorbell. It was so funny at the time.
The apartment we live in now is the one where Milo one night locked us both out at 11:00 p.m. We were saying goodbye to a friend that was visiting us one night, and when we walked the friend out to their car, Milo decided he wanted outside too. He tried to open the door, but accidentally locked the deadbolt on us. We were locked out of our apartment because Milo wanted to be with us – and that wasn’t funny!
We used to live in a mobile home, and Milo tore the front door screen just so he could go in and out. We didn’t mind because Milo was always king of our castle, no matter where we lived.
Milo was a lover, not a fighter. He showed love always, and we gave it always back to him. He always drank water from my finger at the bathroom faucet. When he was young I started walking him on a leash because there was a leash law, and also because I didn’t want my baby running off anywhere. But he had to show his daddy that he was a cat’s cat. He brought home a bird in his mouth for his daddy, to show him. My husband was very proud of him.
The day that Milo left us, we both looked into his eyes and told him that we will be together again one day. I hugged him and kissed both his ears, which he loved, and kissed his little head 3 or 4 times, and off he went to sleep with the angels’ kitties in heaven. We loved Milo like he was our other son, because to us he was our baby and always will be.
Milo had a brother at home, Whiskers Keller. They were like two peas in a pod. When we arrived back home from the vet, we told Whiskers, “Your brother is in heaven, baby, but we’ll see him again one day.” Later, I was sitting on the living room couch and my husband was in the kitchen, when we both heard a cat meow, just once. He asked me if I heard that, and I said “Yes!” It wasn’t Whiskers, because I was looking at him cleaning his paws at the time. My husband and I came together and hugged, and he told me that it was Milo asking God if he could just one more time say goodbye to his Mommy and Daddy. I just cried when he said that. But I believe it to be true. Milo was saying goodbye to us all one more time – his Daddy, his Mommy and brother, and his cat brother Whiskers.
Milo, Mommy and Daddy will never forget you and never stop loving you. You are and will always be a part of the Keller Family. Always loving you Milo … forever! You brought us so much love, and always will!
